Renewable energy

By harnessing the power of nature to power our homes, communities and vehicles we can reduce the amount of fossil fuel we burn, and reduce the amount of CO2 we release into the atmosphere. Solar, wind, small scale-hydro and heat pump technologies are all accessible and effective in northern climates.  About a quarter of all U.S. emissions today come from electricity production, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Switching to renewable energy is an important part of the climate change solution set, and one that contributes to community resilience. As energy production shifts to clean renewable energy and the grid is decarbonized, investments are also required in energy conservation (e.g., improved insulation and sealing in buildings), electrifying everything (e.g., getting rid of natural gas and oil furnaces), and developing energy storage technologies at scale (e.g., pumped hydroelectric) to manage fluctuations in renewable energy production and use.
